Since virgin wool is a purely natural product, it has properties far superior to those of synthetic materials.

Wool clothing has a remarkable property: it naturally resists unpleasant odors. Unlike synthetic fibers and even cotton, wool absorbs and neutralizes body odor, allowing you to wear a garment multiple times before washing it. But how does this natural process work?

A fiber that limits the formation of odors

Sweat itself is odorless. It's the bacteria that thrive in a humid environment that cause body odor. However, wool has a unique structure that helps regulate moisture and prevents bacterial growth:

  • A fiber that absorbs moisture
Wool can absorb up to 35% of its own weight in moisture without feeling wet. By keeping skin drier, it inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria.

  • Ability to trap odors
Unlike synthetic materials that trap odors on the surface, wool captures and neutralizes odor molecules within its fibers. These odors are only released during washing or can be eliminated by simply airing the garment thanks to the keratin naturally present in wool fibers, which is capable of destroying the bacteria that cause unpleasant odors.

  • A scientifically proven action
A study conducted in New Zealand showed that wool fabrics retained 66% less odor than polyester fabrics and 28% less than cotton fabrics before washing.

By reducing the need for washing, wool extends the lifespan of clothing while limiting its environmental impact. Less water consumed, less detergent used: a sustainable fiber in every way.
