Plastic is present in every ocean and sea around the globe, but it is in the North Pacific that ocean currents have created the largest area of accumulation of waste, known infamously as the "plastic continent."
Faced with this ecological disaster, collective awareness is needed. At Royal Mer, we have chosen to prioritize natural, recycled, and upcycled materials in our collections by 2026 in order to reduce our plastic footprint and offer more sustainable fashion.
Once in the water, it fragments into microplastics under the action of UV rays and waves, becoming practically impossible to recover.
These invisible particles are particularly harmful to marine life. By contaminating aquatic life, microplastics move up the food chain and end up on our plates: fish, crustaceans, and mollusks ingest these particles, which end up being consumed by humans.
It is unrealistic to expect that we will be able to recover all the plastic that has accumulated in the oceans over the past 60 years. The only sustainable solution is to reduce our production and consumption of plastic.
At Royal Mer, we are aware of the impact of the textile industry on plastic pollution. That's why we've made strong commitments to offer more responsible fashion, in line with our artisanal heritage and our constant quest for excellence and sustainability.
We favor natural fibers, which are more resistant, and we are committed to use only natural, recycled or upcycled materials by 2026.
There's an urgent need to rethink our consumption patterns and prioritize clothing designed to last and manufactured with respect for the environment. By choosing natural and sustainable materials, we all have a role to play in the fight against plastic pollution.
Because the best waste is that which we do not produce, Royal Mer is committed to offering sustainable fashion that respects the environment and future generations.
