Focus on merino sheep wool, renowned for centuries for its comfort and performance. Today, by combining traditional techniques and modern innovations, Royal Mer creates sweaters and marine clothing by knitting this wool of unparalleled quality. In this article we explain why this material is so unique.

MERINO WOOL, NATURE’S MASTERPIECE

It has a list of benefits that synthetic fibers can only dream of, all brought to life by our expertise in knitting nautical sweaters.

TEMPERATURE REGULATION

Unlike synthetic materials, wool is an active fiber that adapts to body temperature. It helps you stay warm when it's cold, and cool when it's hot.

ODOR RESISTANT

Merino wool wicks sweat away from your body, even repels sweat odor molecules and only releases them when washing. Royal Mer merino wool sweaters will not smell, as can be the case with cotton sweaters. No need to wash your sweater every time you wear it, just let it air out in the open air so you can wear it again.

WRINKLE RESISTANT

If you have a microscope handy, you can see that a merino fiber is like a coiled spring, which returns to its original shape after being bent. Our sweaters are almost non-marking. If ever a crease appears, a light passage of steam from the iron allows the fiber to be put back perfectly in place.

STAIN RESISTANT

The natural protective outer layer of the fiber helps prevent stains and because merino does not generate static electricity, our marine sweaters attract less dust and lint.

QUICK DRYING

Merino wool is woven surprisingly fine, allowing it to wick away moisture quickly. You will be surprised how quickly it dries compared to other materials. After a simple wash, you can let your merino wool clothes dry flat. You will be able to wear them again in no time!

HOW TO CARE FOR MY SWEATER?

The ideal is to wash it as infrequently as possible. However, if you need to wash your new merino wool sailor sweater, follow these few instructions:

  • Machine wash on wool program or 30°c MAXIMUM.
  • Wash inside out
  • Spin up to 600 rpm
  • Dry flat

When washing, choose a special wool detergent which will take care of the fiber.

For drying, prefer drying flat rather than on a hanger so that the weight of the water does not stretch the mesh when drying.

A SAILOR SWEATER THAT IS NOT itchy

With a fiber size between 18.6 and 19.5 μm, our fine merino wool sweaters will not scratch your skin. For comparison, a human hair has a thickness varying between 60 and 180 μm. Our fine merino wool is more flexible, lies delicately on your skin and will avoid the feeling of scratching.

New, looser models that adapt to all body types.

OUR NEW “CLASSICS”: LIZA & DARIUS

We are proud to present our new merino wool sweaters, Liza and Darius . Inspired by our flagship model, the Klasel , these models have been revisited with wider and less fitted cuts to adapt to all body shapes. However, our commitment to quality and originality remains unchanged. Embellished with wooden buttons and designed with these new redesigned fits, Liza and Darius are destined to become wardrobe staples. Discover the perfect marriage between comfort and style, embodying the Royal Mer philosophy: timeless quality.

Without forgetting the timeless signature of the sailor sweater: the stripe.

A LITTLE HISTORY

Merino sheep are native to the North African plateaus of the Atlas Mountains. They owe their name to the Berber tribe of Ber-Merines, who settled in Spain in the 12th century, bringing with them the ancestors of the merinos. Bred for their fine, silky wool, merinos were so prized that they could only be owned by the royal family, or given to favorites as royal gifts.

IN SUMMARY

Thanks to its unique fiber, your Royal Mer marine knit will resist stains, wrinkles and odors. From time to time he may need to breathe, hang him outside or lay him flat on your bed. In case of heavy stains, turn it inside out and wash it at 30°C maximum, then dry it flat. We wish you great adventures with your sweater!
